Episode 133: What is Conviction, Really?

One of the main ways we learn how to hear from God when we are starting out is the issue of conviction. Conviction is God’s internal processor within us to develop our emotional intelligence and self awareness. There are so many things in this world that will cause our perspective not to line up with God’s truth. The more you read the Bible the more truth you get out of it. A lot of times when people say they don’t hear from God…I ask them how do you know what to repent of or to change? How do you know how to grow? There is no one who is good all the time. The Holy Spirit brings conviction and we learn what to do and what not to do. Conviction and shame are not the same. Conviction does not feel like “the end”, it feels like “the beginning.” When you listen to the Holy Spirit He doesn’t sound like hate that makes you feel terrible about yourself, He sounds like a voice that encourages you to keep going.

People who aren’t walking closely with God, oftentimes don’t go out of their way to ask for forgiveness or admit when they are wrong. They are usually fighting to throw people under the bus. Jesus inside of you helps to develop something that is not organic to our natural nature but it is natural to our spirit nature.

Many of you are asking “how do I hear from God?” Ask Him to show you how to become better, not in a shameful way….but it does mean you look at your interactions through the Holy Spirit’s eyes. He makes you want to be better.   Don’t let justice be your first fight, let love be your first fight. The Holy Spirit inside of you helps you to do this.
